Summary
The Siemens S7 ‘Add/Edit Tag’ panel helps the user configuring a new tag to an existing Siemens S7 connection or editing an existing Siemens S7 tag in a very user-friendly way.
The user can open the ‘Add/Edit Tag‘ panel by clicking the ‘Add New Tag’ icon to create a new tag or by clicking the ‘Edit Tag’ icon to edit an existing tag.
Procedure
Step 1: In AP Historian, click the Siemens S7 connection in the tree for which a tag should be created.
Step 2: Next, fill in all general parameters in the ‘General‘ tab as described in the ‘Add New Tag‘ support page.
Step 3: Click the ‘Scanrate‘ tab to change the scanrate if needed as described in the ‘Add New Tag‘ support page.
Step 4: Click the ‘Addressing‘ tab to fill in the addressing parameters.
- Client Access: Specifies the client access of the tag. When ‘Read Only’ is selected, the tag can only be read from the connection by AP Historian. When ‘Read Write’ is selected, the tag can be both read and written from/to the connection by AP Historian.
- Data Type: Specifies the data type of the tag. Read more about data types.
- Area: Specifies the area in the PLC where to read from. Following options are available:
- Datablock
- Input
- Memory Area
- Output
- DB Number: Specifies the datablock number when ‘Datablock’ is selected.
- Start Address: Specifies the start address of the requested data.
- Bit Number: Specifies the bit number when data type ‘Bit’ is chosen.
Step 5: If archiving is needed, click the ‘Archiving‘ tab and fill in the archiving parameters.
Step 6: Additional tag info can be entered in the ‘Additional Info‘ tab but is not required.
Step 7: Finally, click ‘Save’ to save the tag in Historian.
